Research Timeline

The research timeline is intended to help you see clues that will assist you in researching your family history. This new tool allows you to see the events in a person's lifetime. Sometimes, when you see pertinent events that may have affected your ancestors, it draws your attention to other resources you could look at to learn more about them.

There are several pre-designed event groups to choose from, and you can add your own events, as well. The Timeline view is interactive: go ahead and click on names, dates, places to see how it responds. A Timeline report is also available for printing.

Color Coding

Color Code Feature thumbnail

There is a filing system based on four colors that has gained popularity among genealogists over the past several years. This highly requested and anticipated feature utilizes that concept and allows you to add background colors to the name boxes for individuals and/or family lines. The color coding will display on various screens and reports in AQ.

This feature requires the default Ancestral Quest database. The alternate PAF database does not support Color Coding. More

Tags

Create your own set of Tags and assign up to three tags to the various individuals in your database. This has proved to be a wildly popular new feature--some users cannot live without them, now! The tags display on various screens and reports in AQ.

This feature requires the default Ancestral Quest database. The alternate PAF database does not support Tags. More

The popular Fan Chart has just gotten better with two new options. With the color coding, you can now generate a Four-Color Fan Chart. You can also now include siblings in the first generation of the chart.

FamilySearch

For those that have access to FamilySearch's Family Tree, there are a few updates and new abilities. Access to FamilySearch Family Tree is now available to all users.

Discussions: From the Review with FamilySearch screen, you will now be able to view and add comments to discussions for individuals.

Import nFS to Family Tree: From the Review with FamilySearch screen, you are able to import values from the records in New FamilySearch directly to FamilySearch Family Tree. This ability is there to help users of FamilySearch Family Tree improve their own data, as well as make the record of their ancestors in Family Tree be as accurate as possible. Watch the video on this ability.

Sources: You can now view and exchange sources between your personal records and the records of individuals in Family Tree.

LDS Features in FamilySearch

For members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, there are some nice enhancements to the FamilySearch abilities.

Update LDS Ordinances: A new button in the Ordinance Reservation and Tracking System will let you select a group of people in your file and have AQ automatically update all the LDS ordinances for those individuals in your file that are linked to records in FamilySearch.

Quicker Access to Sealings: From the Review with FamilySearch screen, you can now access information on sealings to family members.
