Installation Instructions
for AQ Language Modules

English
Deutsch (German)

Overview

Using a language module in Ancestral Quest involves two basic steps:

  • Place the language module into the Ancestral Quest program folder
  • Select the language module from within AQ

At any time, once language modules are in place, you can select a different language, including the original English, as the language you want to use.

Detailed Steps

A language module is simply a file that you typically download from this website or from a separate individual or organization that has created the file. It's name will look something like this: "AQ.1033lng" or "German.1031lng". The first part of the name (before the dot) is the name you will see in AQ's list of language modules. The extension (the part of the name after the dot) tells AQ which language the file is translated to. In order for AQ to find the language module, it must be copied into AQ's program folder.

There are two ways to place the language module into AQ's program folder.

  • You can simply locate the file on your computer and copy it to your AQ program folder, which typically is: "C:\Program Files\Incline Software\Ancestral Quest 12.1".
  • You can use a tool in AQ to install this file for you. Follow these steps to use this method:

1) Go to "Tools", then choose "Language", then "Select Language File" as shown.

2) Click on the "Install another language file" button as shown.

3) Select the folder that contains your downloaded language file, then select your file, as shown. In this example, we have selected the "Desktop" folder, and the "Chinese.3076lng" file.

4) When you click on the "Open" button as shown above, AQ will copy the selected language file into the AQ program folder.

Selecting a Language File

Once you have installed the language module as described above, you can select it, or select AQ's built-in English module. Detailed steps are shown below.

1) If you are already seeing the screen below, go to step 2. Otherwise, go to "Tools", then choose "Language", then "Select Language File" as shown in step (1) of the procedure above.

2) Using the dropdown list of available languages, select your language as shown below. In this case, we have selected "Chinese (Hong Kong S.A.R)"

3) A list of all modules that you have installed for that language should appear. Select the file you want from the list. Then click on the "Select" button to activate that language module, as shown below. In this example, we only have one file for this Chinese language. It's name is "Chinese", and we have selected it.
Note: If your version of AQ is newer or older than the version used to create the language module, AQ will notify you that you might need to contact the translator for a newer version. Most of the time, this will not be necessary. If you have a newer version of AQ, and new features appear in English rather than your selected language, then you will need to get an updated file from the translator with the new features translated. The translation of older features should be unaffected.

4) If you desire later to select a different language module, just repeat these steps. If you want to select the original English module that came with AQ, select the "English (United States)" language from the list of languages on this screen, then select, "*Ancestral Quest Native Translation".
